Youth Group Volunteer Information
Purpose of role
The purpose of this position is to lead and guide young people at Christ Church, enabling them to grow in their faith and to become the people God is calling them to be, to nurture their growth in discipleship, and to enable them to lead worship for themselves, recognising always that it is the work of the Holy Spirit to convince a young person to respond to the gospel message.
Main duties
Following the teaching rota, to prepare and teach the Bible passage for the session so that each young person is able to actively engage.
To complete the register of attendance.
To assist with setting up for the session and tidying and clearing away at the end of the session.
This will include:
Be committed to Christ Church, its core values, and long-term goals, attending services regularly.
To facilitate Sunday morning meetings - discussion, teaching, prayer and mutual support.
To facilitate Wednesday evening Bible study group.
To support the young people in preparing worship, and delivering youth led services.
To use appropriate resources to enable the young people to grow in their understanding of the Christian faith.
Let the young people know how important they are as individuals and as part of the church.
To be a role model for the young people of what it means to live a Christian life.
Pray regularly for the young people.
Know the youngsters in your care, the types of learners they are and any issues any of them might be struggling with and pay special attention to the youngster that may provide difficult challenges.
Be willing to grow spiritually.
Be dependable, consistent and committed to your task.
Commit to preparing well and carefully for each session.
Have fun and enjoy the youngsters God has entrusted to your care.
Attend meetings and training events.
To work within the youth budget – expenses to be claimed through Jamie Roddy, Children’s & Families Pastor.
Be familiar with the risk assessment and any other health and safety information.
On occasions that the kitchen is used, it will be expected that individuals will be familiar with the health and safety guidelines.
Special skills/requirements
To be called by God and approved by Christ Church.
To be a person who leads in a gracious, Christ-like manner; and who treats each young person with respect and dignity, as a unique individual created in the image of God.
To be a person whose own life of prayer and worship sets an example for young people to follow.
To be on the Electoral roll of Christ Church.
Time required
Session time plus preparation time.
Length of commitment
The basic responsibility of a youth leader is to develop a loving and caring relationship with the them that will help nurture their spiritual lives. To do this, they will benefit most from those who are willing to commit for more than one season. So, a preference would be for at least a two year commitment.
Commitment to Safeguarding
The church is not just a place of worship and where ministry programmes happen, but also a place of safety and trust. Parents will want to know that not only are their children being cared for spiritually, but also that they are in a safe environment.
This post includes regulated activity with children. The church is committed to safeguarding and therefore candidates must undergo includes an enhanced DBS and Barred List check.
The church takes the safety of everyone within the church very seriously and expects that everyone will work within the church safeguarding policy. In particular, the church expects anyone who becomes aware of a safeguarding risk or of actual abuse, to immediately raise this with the safeguarding officer.
